Blakely Estevez’s journey is a testament to resilience and the power of early detection and specialized care. Born on April 19, 2021, in Norco, Louisiana, Blakely was a healthy baby, bringing immense joy to her parents, Abigail and Blake. However, life took a challenging turn when Hurricane Ida struck in August 2021. While Blake, a firefighter, assisted in relief efforts, Abigail and Blakely evacuated to Georgia. Upon returning, they faced significant home damage, leading to months of living in a partially gutted house.
In January 2022, during a routine diaper change, Abigail noticed a firm mass on Blakely’s abdomen. Concerned, she sought medical attention, leading to a diagnosis of Wilms tumor, a rare kidney cancer primarily affecting children. Blakely was promptly referred to Manning Family Children’s, where she underwent surgery to remove the tumor, followed by chemotherapy. Throughout her treatment, Blakely displayed remarkable strength and positivity, earning admiration from her medical team.
Today, Blakely is doing great, and excited to start Pre-K! Abigail emphasizes the significance of trusting one’s instincts and seeking prompt medical evaluation when concerns arise. This September, Blakely will celebrate three years in remission!
