Ashley Rojas and her fiancé Ben experienced years of heartbreak before welcoming their daughter, Breelyn, into the world. After four miscarriages, they were cautiously hopeful when they learned they were pregnant again. But at just 32 weeks, Ashley’s water broke, and Breelyn was born premature, weighing only 3 pounds, 1 ounce.
Shortly after birth, Breelyn developed an intestinal blockage that required surgery at Manning Family Children’s. The procedure was a success, but soon after, doctors discovered Breelyn also had supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), a heart condition that was quickly diagnosed and treated by the pediatric cardiologists at Manning Family Children’s.
Throughout Breelyn’s hospital stay, the family was comforted and supported by a team of dedicated doctors and nurses, as well as the Project Sweet Peas program—a milestone ribbon initiative that brought moments of joy during a difficult time. Now home and thriving, Breelyn continues to be monitored but is doing well. Her parents are filled with gratitude and hope. “I want her to have a full, rich life,” Ben said. “She’s already overcome so much.” Breelyn is developing right on track and has a bright future ahead of her!
