Dash Barrett, came into the world as a small 6-pound baby boy, born April 3, 2006 and left a large impact on everyone who came into his short life. Dash was born with Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida, hydrocephalus, syringomyelia, and neuromuscular scoliosis. Despite all of this, Dash’s most defining features were his personality and spirit. His family’s journey with Dash didn’t lack challenges, but it was always filled with an abundance of joy and love. Dash’s passed away on December 2, 2022, but we will always carry his life and legacy with his family and loved ones.
One of Dash’s favorite things was the aquarium in his bedroom. He would watch the fish swim for hours and admire their colorful beauty and gentle movements. When anyone thinks of Dash, they think of his prized aquarium. To honor Dash’s life and memory, his family helped fund an aquarium – Dash’s Dream Aquarium – for all patients and families at Manning Family Children’s to enjoy. His parents’ goal was to have the aquarium be as diverse as the communities we live in. Dash’s favorite fish was the African Cichlid, a beautiful fish that comes in a rainbow of colors. Together all the fish display the happiness and pride Dash felt towards his own aquarium.
Dash remains in our hearts, and we remember his memory and smile everyday thanks to the joy Dash’s dream aquarium and his legacy provide.
