Fifteen-year-old Essynce is a bright, energetic high schooler who dreams of becoming a hematologist—an ambition inspired by her personal journey with sickle cell disease. Diagnosed just two weeks after birth with the most severe form, High SS, Essynce has faced pain crises, hospital stays, and blood transfusions. Despite these challenges, she excels in school, especially in math, and loves dancing, running, and preparing to try out for majorette.
For the past four years, Essynce has received care from Dr. Justin Farge at the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Manning Family Children’s. Through regular checkups, daily medication, and ongoing support, Dr. Farge and his team have helped her manage symptoms and improve her quality of life. “They always put her well-being first,” said her mom, Kizzy. “We’re grateful for the care and compassion they bring to every visit.”
Essynce’s optimism and strength are what set her apart. “Having sickle cell doesn’t define who I am,” she says. “I want to help other kids like me.” With her family’s love, her strong faith, and expert care at Manning Family Children’s, Essynce continues to thrive—and inspire.
