Tynlee Wagster

On July 9 of last year, Kayla Wagster’s world was turned upside down when her daughter, Tynlee, suddenly went numb without warning. Kayla rushed her to their local hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, but doctors there struggled to pinpoint the cause. After numerous tests and mounting uncertainty, they finally diagnosed Tynlee with a spinal stroke and recommended intensive rehabilitation to help her regain movement and strength.

By July 25, Tynlee had arrived at Manning Family Children’s to begin her rehab journey. With determination and the support of her care team, she made remarkable progress in a short amount of time. By September, she was strong enough to return home, and Kayla made the decision to transition all of Tynlee’s medical care to Dr. Elliot and the team at Manning Family Children’s, leaving behind her former care team in Jackson, Mississippi. The choice brought renewed hope, and it wasn’t long before Tynlee began making strides to walking again with help and her gait belt.

Tynlee’s spirit never wavered. Before her stroke, she had made her school’s cheer team—and against all odds, she kept cheering even after from her wheelchair. With every step forward, Tynlee shows just how powerful determination can be.

“One day, the mountain that is in front of you will be so far behind, it will barely be visible in the distance. But the person you become in learning to get over it… that will stay with you forever. And that is the point of the mountain.” – Brianna Wiest
