Juliette

Juliette Grace Lloyd was born on September 23, 2019, with a complex congenital heart condition—tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, a ventricular septal defect (VSD), and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCAs). Just eight days after birth, she underwent her first open-heart surgery to place a BT shunt. Since then, Juliette has faced numerous medical procedures, including several heart catheterizations and the placement of a feeding tube to support her growth.

At just six months old, Juliette underwent a major milestone in her medical journey: a successful complete repair of her heart, including unifocalization for her MAPCAs. The surgery, performed on April 16, 2020, lasted an intense 20 hours—14 of which she spent on bypass. Throughout her early years, she spent a total of 127 days in the Cardiac ICU at Manning Family Children’s. Her path hasn’t been easy. She requires multiple medical appointments and therapies each week, and her resilience continues to be tested.

Juliette’s strength and journey have inspired more than just those who meet her—they changed the course of her mother Hannah’s life. After spending so much time in the hospital alongside her daughter, witnessing the care and compassion of the medical team, Hannah was moved to pursue nursing herself. Today, she proudly works as a nurse in the NICU at Children’s, giving back to the place that helped save her daughter’s life. Meanwhile, Juliette continues to thrive—her joy is contagious, and her spirit is nothing short of remarkable.

“One day, the mountain that is in front of you will be so far behind, it will barely be visible in the distance. But the person you become in learning to get over it… that will stay with you forever. And that is the point of the mountain.” – Brianna Wiest
