Hezekiah Martínez had just turned two years old when his family received the devastating news: he had acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The diagnosis came only three days before his birthday. His mother, Lydia, brought him to the hospital after noticing that he had frequent bruises, excessive sweating, and cold-like symptoms that wouldn’t go away. What started as subtle signs quickly became serious.
The family arrived at Manning Family Children’s, where Hezekiah began treatment and spent more than three months in care. Throughout their time at the hospital, Lydia expressed deep gratitude for the exceptional team of doctors and nurses who cared for her son with compassion and skill.
Hezekiah’s treatment journey was long and difficult, but the support he received—and the strength of his family—carried him through. He recently underwent a successful bone marrow transplant, and, incredibly, Lydia was a match and able to serve as his donor.
Today, Hezekiah is recovering and continuing his care with hope for a healthier future. His story is a powerful testament to a mother’s love and the expert care provided at Manning Family Children’s.
