Brothers Kyle and Kayden Sylve were both diagnosed with hemophilia B, a rare bleeding disorder that impairs the blood’s ability to clot. Kyle’s condition was identified at seven months old after his mother, Shacari, noticed unexplained bruising. Two years later, Kayden was tested at birth and also diagnosed. Both boys have been under the care of Dr. Maria Velez at Manning Family Children’s, where they receive comprehensive treatment and support.
Kyle participated in a clinical trial for Rebinyn, a medication approved by the FDA in 2018, which he continues to take weekly. Kayden, facing additional complications due to inhibitors, has been on various treatments and is currently doing well, and plans to join the clinical trial soon. The family’s journey has been supported by a dedicated medical team ensuring the boys receive the best possible care.
Despite their condition, Kyle and Kayden lead active lives, enjoying school and safe activities like basketball and video games. Their mom Shacari, emphasizes the importance of positivity and education in managing their health. She looks forward to the day her boys can independently manage their treatment, aiming for them to lead happy, productive lives.
